Participation is Free

If you are attending the course as a student or as a faculty member of an ERASMUS+ "sending institution" and become mobile on the basis of an inter-institutional agreement between your home institution and Suttneruni, you will not have to pay the general course fee. Instead, you will receive funding from the ERASMUS+ Mobility initiative through your home institution. You can use these funds to cover your travel, food, and lodging expenses. Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.

We invite all participants to support our host, the Waldhüttl community, financially according to your means. As an independent project that receives no public funding, it is entirely dependent on donations, so they need our solidarity - as much as we need them to learn and grow!

Boarding

If you have been nominated by your home institution you will be invited to register via Suttneruni's application portal. When doing so we recommend that you also book catering at the time of registration. Our venue, the Waldhüttl, is located above the city of Innsbruck at the edge of a forest. Self-catering is quite difficult there. In addition, the common meals are part of our community program. Therefore, we offer full board at a reasonable  price of about € 20 per day. Vegetarian food is  offered by default, although we can provide vegan options if necessary. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know.

Lodging

Our venue, the grounds of the Waldhüttl community, also offers simple overnight accommodations - a great experience in beautiful surroundings. Several beds are available in the culture barn. You can also sleep in the teepee or bring a small tent and pitch it on the grounds. Those who come by car can also sleep in the parking lot near the house. If you would like to take advantage of this great and inexpensive opportunity, please indicate this when you register on the university's application portal. The contribution of about €135 per person (about €15  per day) will go to the Waldhüttl community, who will offer us their hospitality free of charge.

If you want more comfortable accommodations, you can book a hotel in the city or share an apartment with other participants. It takes 45-60 minutes to walk uphill from the city to the Waldhüttl. We can provide a list of possible lodgings.

No coverage for Travel and Health Insurance

Travel and medical insurance is not included. Participants are responsible for their own travel and transport (tickets, visa fees etc.).

Cancellation Policy

The contract between Bertha von Suttner Privatuniversität and the applicant is valid as soon as the applicant accepts the offer of a place in a course, i.e. by transferring the corresponding fee to our account. You have the right to cancel this contract at any time within 14 days, beginning on the day you accepted the offer.

Please be aware that if you cancel your place at any time after the expiry of the 14-day period, you will not be entitled to a full refund of the fee paid for the summer school. If you withdraw your participation up to 15 days before the start of the in-person week in Innsbruck (start date: June 16, 2024), we will retain 50% of your payment (e.g., boarding and lodging) to cover our expenses. If you cancel your participation 14 days or less before the meeting in Innsbruck, no refund will be issued. In case of cancellation, bank service charges connected to the refund will be charged to you.

Cancellation by Us

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the university may cancel the course. In this case, the university will make every reasonable effort to notify you as soon as possible (usually at least 15 business days before the start date). The university will refund all fees paid by you. In the event of cancellation, the university's liability is limited to the amount of tuition paid by the student. Partial cancellations will be refunded on a pro-rated basis.

Complaints Procedure and Ombuds Office

If you have a complaint related to issues of diversity and equal treatment, you should contact the University’s compliance officer: Julia Muellner, +43 676 847 22 88 12, julia.muellner@suttneruni.at. Participation Fee

Independent participants as well as students and staff of Suttneruni have to pay the participation fee and the mandatory semester contribution to the Austrian Student Union. The full course is offered for only €400 (approx. €50 per day) plus the student union fee (€22.70).

The fee covers:

• the core course fee,
• our expenses for food and cooking,
• lodging at the Waldhüttl (basic accommodation)
• rent, technical support and other services provided by the Waldhüttl.

Personal Accident and General Liability Insurance

The compulsory student union fee covers your contribution to personal accident insurance and general liability insurance, amongst other things. The insurance will be activated as soon as Suttneruni forwards your payment to the Students Union ÖH. Find out more about the insurance policy of the Austrian Student Union ÖH here.

Fundraising support

In general, we do not have a budget for scholarships due to the generally low cost of the program. If you need a letter of support or confirmation of nomination to apply for funding for travel and tuition, we will be happy to assist you.

If an applicant is in desperate need of financial assistance or is unable to raise funds on their own, we may consider providing financial support to individual students. This is especially true for participants from the Global South or "South in the North" who have little or no financial resources. Other financial contributions may be made to people from economically disadvantaged countries and nation states, as well as politically, economically, and culturally oppressed regions of any country. Please contact us with any questions regarding affordability and cost flexibility!

Payment

If you are offered and accept a place on the course, we will expect your payment to our bank account by January 15, 2024. Your place on the Action Research Summer Camp is confirmed as soon as your payment is received by Suttneruni. The university does not work with instant transfer services (e.g., PayPal, Venmo, Visa/Mastercard debit cards). Any bank service charges have to be covered by the participant.

All independent participants and members of Suttneruni (i.e., participants who are not sent to the camp on the basis of an ERASMUS mobility agreement with a partner university) are required to pay the course fee of € 400 plus the “ÖH-Beitrag” (compulsory fee to the Student Union in Austria) of currently € 22.70 (total: € 422.70). Bertha von Suttner Private University is obliged by law to forward this contribution to the Austrian student body ÖH, including for participants from abroad who are attending short courses.
