| Texte | Abstract:
Ambiguous loss – a traumatic loss that occurs without closure, is a central concept in the therapeutic process of migrants and refugees. Yet, it is somewhat overlooked in the DMT field. The current study aims to bridge this gap by exploring loss and ambiguity in the DMT with migrants and refugees and linking them with the ambiguous loss theory. The author employed thematic analysis, autoethnography and framework synthesis to explore creative processes of clients and a therapist with complementary lived experience, devise themes, and link them with the relevant theoretical concepts. The themes and symbols of loss and ambivalence are linked with the processes of normalizing ambivalence, finding meaning, adjusting mastery, reconstructing identity, revising attachment, and discovering hope. The strengths and limitations of different DMT interventions in this context are discussed. Creative therapeutic process and therapists with shared lived experience are key for advancing research and practice for dislocated populations. |
