| Texte | This paper re-interprets the relationship between time, work and artistic activity as reflected in a graduation project of an Austrian artist (Silvia Ungersboeck) at the Austrian Academy of Fine Art. She arranged some paintings and drawings which reflect different artistic techniques and modes of art production that shall show how her work is structured by the constraints of daily life as a mother of two kindergarten children. Her project had, therefore, a socially critical claim. Moreover, she interprets her artistic work in terms of a theory of action based on the general time structure of consciousness.
In this paper I want to tease out some structures of her artistic production and the relationship between the world of imagination and of daily life by using the frame of reference developed by Alfred Schütz in On Multiple Realities. Our argument has three steps. In a first step, we reconstruct some elements of Schütz’s theoretical approach. In a second step, we argue that art production is based in specific relationships between the world of daily life and the world of imagination. In a third step, we interpret Silvia’s work with reference to this framework and show that the structure of art production can be analyzed as multi-layered and meaningful (social) action under the conditions of a specific attention to life.
